The Christian doctrine of the Trinity teaches the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead. The doctrine states that God is the Triune God, existing as three persons, or in the Greek hypostases, but one being. (Personhood in the Trinity does not match the common Western understanding of "person" as used in the English language—it does not imply an "individual, self-actualized center of free will and conscious activity." To the ancients, personhood "was in some sense individual, but always in community as well." Each person is understood as having the one identical essence or nature, not merely similar natures.) Since the beginning of the third century the doctrine of the Trinity has been stated as "the one God exists in three Persons and one substance, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit." Trinitarianism, belief in the Trinity, is a mark of Roman Catholicism, Eastern and Oriental Orthodoxy as well as of the "mainstream traditions" arising from the Protestant Reformation, such as Anglicanism, Baptist, Methodism, Lutheranism and Presbyterianism. The Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church describes the Trinity as "the central dogma of Christian theology".

The concept of Trinitarianism came about 300 years after Jesus' passing, when certain non-standard views such as Arianism were coming to prominence (cf. First Council of Nicaea). A central concern among Church leaders was that the holiness of Jesus be regarded and reinforced in teaching, such that Jesus would not be viewed as a mere prophet, but as the Son of God (cf. Arian controversy). It was also believed that God the Father employed the image of Jesus as an angel of divine manifestation, such that Jesus —as known in iconic form —had become the human face and personae of the immaterial God (cf. illumination). Leaders were also concerned that due to the invisibility of God and the iconic visibility of Jesus, that Jesus might increasingly be viewed as the deity, rather than as the Son and messiah (cf. Personhood of the Holy Spirit). Trinitarianism thus incorporated God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit (a manifestation of God's presence) into a single concept such that made clear that God the Father is at the head of the Trinity and Jesus the Son was the human being in whom God's presence was most manifest. The Trinity thus expanded upon Jesus' statements regarding God's presence within him, and his place within God (for example, 1 John 14:09-10 and 1 John 4:15-16).

Trinitarianism contrasts with Nontrinitarian positions which include Binitarianism (one deity/two persons), Unitarianism (one deity/one person), the Oneness belief held by certain Pentecostal groups, Modalism, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' view of the Godhead as three separate beings who are one in purpose rather than essence.

The New Testament does not have an explicit doctrine of the Trinity. However, Southern Baptist theologian Frank Stagg emphasizes that the New Testament does repeatedly speak of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit to "compel a trinitarian understanding of God." The doctrine developed from the biblical language used in New Testament passages such as the baptismal formula in Matthew 28:19 and took substantially its present form by the end of the 4th century as a result of controversies in which some theologians, when speaking of God, used terms such as "person", "nature", "essence", "substance", terms that had never been used by the Apostolic Fathers, in a way that the Church authorities considered to be erroneous.

Some deny that the doctrine that developed in the fourth century was based on Christian ideas, and hold instead that it was a deviation from Early Christian teaching on the nature of God or even that it was borrowed from a pre-Christian conception of a divine trinity held by Plato.

What to wear while taking a college tour at Trinity University?
Q. I'm visiting Trinity University this weekend, what should I wear? Should I dress up a little more and wear a high waisted skirt, shirt tucked in with Uggs or should I keep it casual with some jeans and a nice top? Thanks!

A. I would go half and half- smart casual. So, in my mind, a pair of black skinny jeans, with flats, or ankle boots/riding boots, a ruffle top (rather then a white shirt, because it'd look too job interview-y) and a cropped blazer over the top- accessories with a scarf (if where you're from is cold) fashionably tied. Don't dress too casual, as impressions do count.

Why do most Christians believe the false doctrine of the trinity?
Q. During the time of the Messiah, there was no such thing as the trinity. The messiah clearly claimed that his father was in heaven, and prayed to him often. And the voice from heaven said: Matthew 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Father and Son, the Son is not the father. It was in 325 AD that Constantine introduced the trinity doctrine which the Catholic church and protestant church continue to preach today.

A. The teachings of the Church contradict the teachings of Jesus (pbuh) and that is the cause of the confusion. If a sincere christian who wants to follow Jesus (peace be upon him), asks priests about trinity, the answer that he gets is "It is a Mystery, not explained by Jesus (pbuh) clearly", at that time again those forget that Jesus (pbuh) said, "I spoke openly to the world. I always taught in synagogues and in the temple, where the Jews always meet, and in secret I have said nothing" (John 18:20 (NKJ)). If trinity is confusing enough to be called a mystery, it cannot be from God. Because: "God is not a God of confusion." 1 Corinthians 14:33, Revised Standard Version (RS). There was no mystery in the message of Jesus (pbuh), nothing… [cont.]

I need help with the aural test for a Trinity Guildhall Grade 8 music exam please?
Q. I'm doing a Grade 8 Trinity Guildhall music exam in a week or so and I'm not really sure what will come up in the aural test. Could anyone refer me to a website where it has this information and maybe a few practice questions? Or maybe if anyone could tell me what is involved and what I have to do, that would be great. Thanks.

A. There is a lot you must know! Trinity Guildhall is by far harder than ABRSM in my honest opinion. I'm doing grade six aural quite soon with TG. A piece will be played twice, you may answer after the first or the second playing. After both playings you will need to comment on: the time signature, phrasing, style and dynamics. Then the examiner will play the ending again, you will need to say whether the cadence is: plagal, interupted, perfect or imperfect. After this, the examiner will tell you what key the piece opens in and for you to tell him/her what key the music modulates to. Lastly the examiner will hand you a score of the piece, he or she will play it once as written, then again with up to 4 changes, you will need to indicate what… [cont.]
